Wellness Wednesday: Self Care Through Ancient Art

Using a simple piece of paper, participants will create a Cura Codex. This workshop is inspired by ancient art and care, and serves a tool to help us process feelings of isolation, and other issues that may surface during and post pandemic. Led by Felicia Montes of Mujeres de Maíz, the workshop will begin with a short breathing exercise, a prayer song to honor the land and offer a space to share cultural ways of practicing self-care. For this workshop you will need an 8 x11 piece of white paper and pencil or pen. Optional supplies may include markers, colored pencils, and paint. Registration is required via Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wellness-wednesday-tickets-149574841377.

The Cura Codex workshop will inform the creation of an art piece, to be developed by the SHG Youth Committee for ArtRise, a component of We Rise LA. The cohort will be creating a wheat paste mural and original song composition to highlighting stories of healing during COVID-19. The mural will be on view at Self Help Graphics beginning May 7, 2021, with more details to be announced soon.

This workshop is conducted via Zoom and will bot be published on social media. To join, Eventbrite registrants will be emailed a private link in advance. Should you have additional questions about details of the workshop and how to join, please email Natalie Godinez, Community Engagement Coordinator, at natalie.godinez@selfhelpgraphics.com.
