This print represents a “culture of death” or a “pervasive ugliness” that accepts and engenders violence, suffering, and death. The image is arranged in bubbles showing different blob-like figures whose cross-eyes resemble zombie-like creatures who perform the violence of an omnipresent culture of death. The central Madonna figure protects her child with a handgun, showing the extreme danger and fear produced by the ubiquity of death. These despairing themes contrast with the colorful, cartoonish image style, yet the print is imbued with an undeniable sense of despondency and dread.
