This print shows a green dragon-winged flying ship surrounded by miniature red devils atop bubble-gum pink clouds. An Indian chief and an owl are outlined on the bottom against the turquoise background. The image focuses on European migration 500 years ago and the new belief systems, advanced war technology, diseases, slaves and other things these immigrants brought with them to the new world. The title refers to a popular saying in Spanish, stating that “the sound of the owl foretells the death of the Indian.” Though coated with bright colors and lighthearted illustration, this print draws ties between European colonization of the Americas and the genocide of indigenous populations from sea to sea.

After earning a degree in graphic design, Edgar Ibarra graduated with a BFA in fine arts from Otis College of Art and Design. He is now an acomplished tattoo artist in Los Angeles area with over 25 years of experience. Today he explores en plein air painting while developing studio work derived from his observation of places. Edgar currently lives in Los Angeles CA and travels continuously painting on locations that inspire him.
