A fresh addition to the Los Angeles scene, John Tallacksen has built a reputation as a master in figurative art and a skilled printmaker. His work translates strong figure drawings skills across the mediums of: drawings, fine art prints, and paintings to capture the unique emotions of the community around him. Self dubbed a "Socialrealist" Tallacksen works his way deep into the fabric of surrounding cultures and subcultures to report on life as it is now. First discovered by Self Help Graphics & Arts and Master Printer Juan Rosillo for his "Pico Union Series" where John's black and white block prints depicted his mostly Central American immigrant neighbors in the L.A. barrio of the same name- Tallacksen has since burrowed into the subject matter of sub-cultures such as the young immigrant creative movement in Los Angeles and portraits of local business owners. By becoming a stakeholder in the common interests of the Los Angeles County immigrant community, Tallacksen has opened up a conversation on his own immigrant story as-well as his viewers'.
Since moving to L.A. in 2007 John Tallacksen has embraced the local fine art and printmaking culture. He has been mentored by Masters such as Juan Rosillo and Richard Duardo, and continues to work as a Printer in Duardo's studio Modern Multiples even after Duardo's passing in 2014. Tallacksen continues to create figurative work based on the souls of those he encounters via the cities of Los Angeles, Chicago, and Kristiansand Norway.
