Artist Statement: Since graduating in May, I wanted to do a piece commemorating the end of my academic education in art. I created a fictional notebook page from real class notes taken from my various theory classes at Cal Arts. Interspersed between quotes from Deleuze and Guattari, I drew friends and doodles from various parties and social interactions. The blue ink represents the ink from a ballpoint pen and the pink is of a highlighter. Each run is of some academic/office writing utensils such as pencil, pen, and highlighter, In the print, I wanted to transform this 'notebook' aesthetic into a large serigraph art context.
Shizu Saldamando was born and raised in San Francisco’s Mission District, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
