Vincent Ramos (b. 1973, Santa Monica; lives in Venice) creates drawings, installations and performances rooted in archival research and his own collecting practices. His works link popular culture with specific historical events to reinterpret notions of memory, time and place within social, cultural and political arenas of American society. Drawing inspiration from the Paramount archive, Ramos’s new commission for Frieze Projects highlights important events that have shaped and impacted the Latinx experience from the 1930s to the present. By mixing his personal family documents, photographs, and objects with representations of Chicanos and Latinos in cinema and the media, the artist connects and layers real and fictionalized images of Mexican, Mexican-American, and Chicano histories in California and the Southwest.
