In collaboration with the esteemed Chicana artist Yolanda Gonzalez, we discovered a mutual passion for global exploration that began in the 1990s. This shared interest deepened our artistic connection and emphasized the importance of international experiences in shaping our creative perspectives. As international Chicanas, our journeys are marked by discovery, performances on global stages, in-depth explorations in painting, and cultural collaborations. These experiences are a pivotal source of inspiration, infusing our music and art with diverse cultural narratives and perspectives. They fostered a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our world, enriching our work and broadening our appreciation for the complexity of our culture and identity when viewed through an international lens.
This print is part of the Re-Membering Generation: 1990's LA Chicana/o/x Music Atelier, a multidisciplinary exploration that documents SHG's vibrant music scene and history in the 1990s.The exhibition pairs eight duets (a visual artist with a musician) to produce original songs and serigraph prints inspired by their conversations, reflections, and memories of the LA music scene of the late 90s.
