Family Workshop: My Donut Story

  • Self Help Graphics & Art 1300 East 1st Street Los Angeles, CA, 90033 United States (map)

Join us for our Family Workshop on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 p.m. Inspired by her exhibition, Donut (W)hole, currently on view in the Self Help Graphics & Art gallery, artist Phung Huynh will lead families on an art workshop to design your own donut.

The workshop will begin with a conversation about the different cultural foods immigrant communities have contributed to the rich fabric and culture of Los Angeles, then speak about the role of donuts in California culture and how their flavors have expanded and changed through time. Then, we will use hand-printed donut templates and various drawing and painting supplies to illustrate our donuts.

What flavor would your donut be, and what would that look like if it reflected your own cultural identity? We now have Matcha green tea donuts, ube, horchata, and even mango con tajín! The sky's the limit. This workshop is open to all ages and will coincide with SHG's Resource fair.

Spaces are limited, register now!
