On January 18, 2019 SHG Artists in Residence, Ni Santas Collective facilitated a Womxn’s March Poster Making Workshop for youth, as well as painted a large-scale butterfly with The California Endowment (TCE) slogan “Rise Up As One” on a 25 foot parachute for use at the march for TCE.

In addition to hosting the political poster making workshop, Ni Santas created a presentation for youth participants centered around the understanding of art and protest posters; which detailed how words and symbols used through these experiences can be used as a communication tool for social change.

As an organization, SHG programs these types of experiences for youth because it believes that art promotes social change and creates dialogue related to issues affecting the community and has been doing so since its inception in 1973.
