Los Angeles, Calif. (April 22, 2021) – The national search for Self Help Graphics & Art’s (SHG) next Master Printer/Assistant Director of the Professional Printmaking Program position has officially concluded with the hiring of Los Angeles-based Artist and Printmaker, Dewey Tafoya. After months of searching and interviewing numerous candidates, Tafoya has been selected to fulfill this important role beginning May 3. He is a long-time member of the SHG creative community and Teaching Artist.
“Self Help Graphics & Art’s Professional Printmaking Program is at the center of our artistic legacy and it’s a great honor to name Dewey Tafoya our newest Master Printer, Assistant Director of the Professional Printmaking Program (PPP) to carry on our 48 year legacy of printmaking with his technical skill, artistic vision and deep connection to community,” said Betty Avila, Executive Director of SHG. “Dewey began as a volunteer with the organization almost 20 years ago and has grown to be a familiar face in neighborhoods across Los Angeles, as a teaching artist for the organization and an independent artist and printmaker. He understands the need for an accessible, nurturing professional studio for our community, remains curious and is deeply passionate about the art of printmaking today.”
“Self Help Graphics is the place that inspired me to learn to screen print. It is the place where I developed my knowledge of screen printing and the place that has allowed me to share that knowledge with others. I have had the great privilege to learn and hone my skills under a great legacy of artists and printmakers. Stepping into the role of Master Printer for Self Help Graphics is a tremendous honor for me, both as a screen printer and as an artist,” said Tafoya.
In this arts administrator Master Printer, Assistant Director of the Professional Printmaking Program position, Dewey will oversee and implement the community building, artist mentoring, and publication of serigraph prints through the Professional Printmaking Program. The Master Printer will work closely with the Executive Director, Director of Artist Programs and Education, and collaboratively with the artists invited to publish in the studio through week-long residencies.

(22 de abril de 2021)– La búsqueda nacional del próximo puesto de maestro impresor, asistente del director del programa de grabado profesional de Self Help Graphics & Art (SHG), ha concluido oficialmente con la contratación del artista y grabador de Los Ángeles, Dewey Tafoya. Después de meses de buscar y entrevistar a numerosos candidatos, Tafoya ha sido seleccionado para cumplir con este importante papel a partir del 3 de mayo. Es miembro de la comunidad creativa de SHG y Artista de enseñanza desde hace mucho tiempo.

En este puesto de administrador de artes, maestro impresor, subdirector del programa de grabado profesional, Dewey supervisará e implementará la construcción de la comunidad, la tutoría de artistas y la publicación de serigrafías a través del programa de grabado profesional. La Impresora Maestra trabajará en estrecha colaboración con el Director Ejecutivo, el Director de Programas y Educación para Artistas, y en colaboración con los artistas invitados a publicar en el estudio a través de residencias de una semana.
