Ada Pullini Brown’s Untitled piece was created in part of the “Utopia/Dystopia” portfolio, curated by artist Miyo Stevens-Gandara. Miyo invited 26 artists to each pick two cards from a full deck, incorporating a diverse range of interpretations and ideas into a single, unified collection. Ada directly incorporates the “deck of cards” exhibition theme into her representations. In utopia, she portrays a young girl whose self forms the fifth heart. While her dystopian image shows the Queen of Clubs with a hand over her mouth, with the ominous caption “silence will not protect you” in Latin.

Born and raised in New York City and working in Los Angeles, Ada’s work consists of a wide range of forms, such as landscapes, still-lifes, and figures. The inspiration for her work comes from personal encounters, as well as questions regarding how injustices and our responses to them influence the social world. Much of this interest stems from the cultural, social, and economic status of women. She ponders the struggles women face, but also celebrates the resistance employed as a result of these struggles. 

Ada earned an M.F.A from the University of Houston and a B.A. in Studio Arts from Queens College of the City University of New York.  Further extending her education, she also attended the Sarah Lawrence College School of the Arts and the Laguna College of Art & Design. Living in Los Angeles, she is currently a tenured Professor of Art at Rio Hondo College with an exhibition studio at the Brewery Artist Complex.  Further, she has completed three atelier programs at Self-Help Graphics, as well as worked for the Brentwood Art Center's Summer Abroad Program, through which she lead painting expeditions through Europe. Her works can be found in public and private collections across the world.
