Jose Ramirez and Yaotl
Aztlan Underground, 2024
Serigraph, Ed. of 54
22 x 30 in.

This print and music are a collective and collaborative intention between Visual artist Jose Ramirez and Yaotl of Aztlan Underground, attempting to capture the 90s rebel Xikan@ culture. Our song tries to capture the transformative rebel spirit of the 90s and all the upheaval. At the same time, Artist Jose Ramirez rendered his impression of the band Aztlan Underground in an angular and emotional expressionist caricature style. The depiction invokes urgency and authentic intensity in its use of colors and contrasts with the song lyrics called Rebel 90s boldly placed within the painting. The print was enhanced by graphic designer Alfonso “Fonz” Covarrubias and artist Dewey Tafoya. The combination of the recorded work and the visual invokes the energy of cultural, artistic resistance, and intellectual rebellious organizing and movement of the 90s era in Zapatista Xikan@ Los Angeles.
