Did you know that our Beyond the Press Artist in Residence program invests deeply in artists who become immersed in our day-to-day work through workshops, open studios, serigraph publishing and a culminating solo exhibition? This year we welcomed Kalli Arte Collective into the residency and have seen them soar! Help us sustain programs like this that elevate grassroot artists in our community…

In the spring of 2022, artists Joan Zeta, Moni Perez, and Martha Carrillo created a sensory garden installation in our parking lot titled “Refugio’s Oasis”, a part of LA County’s We Rise mental health initiative. Give to Self Help Graphics to keep transforming spaces to support wellness and artistic expression through the lens of artists and youth.

And earlier this year Artist Skye Tafoya, a printmaker and basket weaver, took part in our Indigenous Womxn Atelier, creating Relatives, 2022 as part of our Professional Printmaking Program. She is one of many artists who have printed at SHG in 2022. Donate to help us continue to foster artists in our print studio!

Our annual Dia de los Muertos celebration provides an opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us through the creative process with community. Please consider supporting SHG in your year-end giving to grow and evolve this long-standing tradition at Self Help Graphics.

As the year comes to an end, we have so much to be thankful for and look forward to stepping into our 50th Anniversary in the community. MARI CARDENAS: COLORES DE VALOR EXHIBIT ON VIEW THROUGH NEW YEAR
Mari Cardenas: Colores de Valor, curated by endy trece, presents a selection of prints and paintings from more than 50 years of Mari's artistic practice. The exhibition demonstrates how she bravely explored her spectrum of color, form, and emotions as a strategy for creating her happiness in different ways, using what was available to her within a life of painful experiences and circumstances.
Alongside Mari's work, silkscreen prints by her peers at Self Help Graphics & Art will be included in the exhibition to bring us into her world of friendships and art practice. Mari Cardenas: Colores de Valor will remain on view until February 17, 2023. On February 4, 2023, the artist will participate in a Colores de Valor conversation at Self Help Graphics, with more info to be announced. Please note that the gallery will be closed for the holidays from December 24-January 8, 2022. Learn more here.
